What is RHO KAPPA?

RHO KAPPA Social Studies Honor Society is the only national organization for high school juniors and seniors that recognizes excellence in the field of Social Studies.  RHO KAPPA provides national recognition and opportunities for exploration in the Social Studies. The Robert Bristow Chapter of the Rho Kappa Social Studies Honor Society at Brentsville District High School’s mission is:

  • to promote scholarship and to recognize academic excellence in social studies among high school students.
  • to provide through its local chapters opportunities for exploration in the social studies in secondary school environments and the community 
  • to encourage interest in, understanding of, and appreciation for the social studies

How to Become a Member:
Full membership in RHO KAPPA is by invitation, given by the local chapter on behalf of the national organization.  Students may be invited to become a member of RHO KAPPA based on their achievement in social studies.


Candidates for membership must:
  • Be a Junior or Senior
  • Have an unweighted Social Studies GPA: 3.5
  • Have an overall GPA: 3.0
  • Obtain one teacher recommendation outside the social studies and have the recommendation of your current social studies teacher.
  • Present evidence of community involvement
Novice membership (members in training) is open to all Sophomores who:
  • have an overall GPA of a 3.0
  • Obtain one teacher recommendation outside the social studies and have the recommendation of your current social studies teacher.
