I chose a career in teaching because I wanted to help students develop the necessary reading, writing, and critical thinking skills to improve the quality of their lives as well as our nation generally.
In my class, students will learn that the study of history is the study of human experience. We will avail ourselves of the experiences of other times, people, and civilizations to learn from past struggles and adversities to improve our government, nation, and world. It has been said that Mark Twain once said that history did not repeat itself but instead rhymed. I believe this means that the problems confronted in the past shape and influence the problems we face today. It is my hope that our exploration of history will help students identify those problems and work together to consider solutions for problems that plague our world today.
