BDHS ORCHESTRA STUDENTS IN ALL COUNTY ORCHESTRA
Two BDHS Orchestra members were selected to participate in the January All County Orchestra. Congratulations to Tyler Lynn, violinist, and Katherine Sandstrum, violist! Kudos also to the other students who auditioned for this event but were not selected. Many hours of preparation for the audition have not been wasted, as these students now will have had this audition experience as they prepare for future events.
A big thanks goes out to the many BDHS students and parents who helped with all areas of preparation and execution of the All County Orchestra Audition, held at BDHS. Parents brought food and manned the registration tables. Students served as runners and judges' assistants, and kept the event running smoothly.
SPAGHETTI DINNER A WONDERFUL SUCCESS!
Congatulations and thanks to the many folks who made the BDHS Orchestra Booster Election Day Spaghetti Dinner and Concert a huge success for all involved! The BDHS Orchestras performed beautiful music as well as The Nokesville School Seventh and Eighth Grade Orchestras. In celebration of Election Day, we heard Yankee Doodle, America and The Star Spangled Banner. My favorite piece all evening was Tango Trocadero performed by the BDHS Concert Orchestra, featuring the cello section.
Bibi Cloonan, BDHS Orchestra Booster President, did a superb job of organizing the event, and Kathleen Limjoco's use of the Signup Genius was a genius move. We had plenty of volunteers, from parents to faculty members to Nokesville office staff! Many, many people worked together as one big team, and it was a beautiful evening spent together having dinner and performing or listening to energetic music.
I am so proud to be a part of this group of middle school and high school musicians, their families and the two schools. You are creating some wonderful memories for all of us! Thank you, everyone.

SPRING STRING THING DATES ANNOUNCED
James Madison University hosts the Spring String Thing every spring, and this year the event will be held on May 20-22, 2016. Sixth graders through seniors may participate in this exciting learning event. Students will rehearse Friday and Saturday and perform in a concert on Sunday afternoon for a large audience in Wilson Hall at JMU. Students are housed in the JMU dormitories and have college students as counselors/chaperones. Parents may also attend the weekend, especially if your child is in the younger grades. The cost of the event is around $230, but I do not have specific information at this time about the fee.
Bass players may borrow instruments from JMU, but would need to reserve one ahead of time.
Check out the website for more information. Application forms will be available on the website in early February.https://www.jmu.edu/music/workshops_events/sst/
Sr. Regional Orchestra Audition Results
Although no students from BDHS were selected for the Senior Regional Orchestra, I want to commend and congratulate our students who auditioned. These students began practicing in May for this event, but with the high level of competition from other schools in six jurisdictions, our students were not selected.
I am very proud of your hard work and your perseverance. Kudos to you!
Jr. Regional Orchestra Audition Results
Congratulations to Clayton Bostick, Freshman cellist in the BDHS Advanced Orchestra (Sinfonia), for making first Alternate at the Jr. Regional Orchestra Auditions on Saturday, Oct. 3rd, at Lake Ridge Middle School. Being an alternate means that Clayton would participate in the November JRO if another student were not able to attend. The competition was quite tough on Saturday, as students were competing with musicians from the following counties/cities: Prince William, Manassas City, Fauquier, Stafford, Spotsylvania as well as Loudoun.Six other students auditioned but were not selected. I am so proud of our BDHS Freshmen who worked hard and prepared the music, scales and sightreading for this event. These students spent many hours of practicing and listening to the audition music and are commended for their efforts.
