Behind the Wheel Information

Summer School Behind the Wheel registration is live (summer 2026): 



Who is eligible to take BTW and prerequisites for signing up for BTW

  • Any student with a permit and who has completed the 36-hour classroom driver ed course including the 90 min parent/teen presentation.
  • Sophomores who are currently in the 36-hour course (HPE II) must have at least 3 weeks of successful instruction and be passing. You must also attend the 90 min parent/student presentation before completion of both classroom and behind-the-wheel.
  • Cost: $240

 

What is the process after BTW has been scheduled? Mrs. O'Neill and Mrs. Tousha will place you in your scheduled session once you have signed up in the sign-up genius, registered on the website, AND paid. Several days prior to the session, you will get an email with instructions and permission forms that must be printed and returned.

Remember, to be eligible for a driver's license in Virginia before the age of 18, you MUST

  • Hold a permit for 9 months
  • Drive 45 hours (15 at night) with a guardian and turn in a 45-hour driving log 45-Hour Parent/Teen Driving Guide
  • Complete a 7 day behind the wheel course, including the road test on the final day (Includes permission forms, and a tire/oil assignment due to behind-the-wheel instructor)
